Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a travel advisory for pilgrims travelling by air to Iran and Iraq, asking them to confirm their flight bookings well before departure. A ministry spokesperson said pilgrims flying to or within the two countries should not rely on unconfirmed bookings and should make sure alternative travel arrangements are available.

The advisory singles out air travel between Tehran, Mashhad and Najaf, and asks pilgrims to verify their bookings in advance to avoid disruption during their journeys. Pilgrims have also been advised to carry additional funds in case flights are cancelled. The money may be needed to arrange alternative air or land transport or to cover accommodation.

What registered groups have been told to do

The ministry has instructed registered pilgrimage group organisers not to rely on unconfirmed flights within Iran. Organisers have also been directed to inform every member of their group about the advisory. They must make sure members understand the need to verify bookings and prepare for possible travel disruptions.

Why the ministry says it matters

The ministry said the measures are intended to help pilgrims make safer journeys and reduce interruptions to their travel plans. Pilgrims who are booked on flights to Iran or Iraq are advised to check their bookings and keep some spare funds ready before they leave.
