Google has opened a Connected Apps Platform that lets businesses submit their own services for use inside Google Search and the Gemini app, giving developers a formal path onto the company’s AI surfaces.
Connected apps, which Google introduced in Gemini and Search earlier this year, let people securely link third-party services and ask the AI to carry out concrete tasks—for example designing a flyer in Canva or building a playlist in YouTube Music. Until now, the set of partners has been limited. The new platform is meant to widen that list by inviting any business or developer that wants reach through Search or Gemini to build, test, and submit an integration.
How developers join the programme
The preview is in beta for developers in the United States who join a waitlist. Google has not announced when access will expand.
To take part, developers connect through a cloud-hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server—software that helps an AI talk to an outside app—or through Android MCP with AppFunctions APIs. They then use the Google Connected Console to register, test, and submit the app, and can choose availability in Search, the Gemini app, or both. Once live, they can monitor traffic, latency, and error rates while keeping control of brand elements such as verified logos and authenticated accounts.
What users already see, and what is coming
Gemini already lists more than 50 connected apps, including partners such as Adobe, Experian, Localiza, and Peloton, plus Google’s own services such as Workplace, Photos, YouTube Music, and Google Home. Those apps are due to arrive in Google Search over the next few weeks. Search today offers fewer links, among them Instacart, Canva, YouTube Music, and Yahoo Fantasy Football.
Google said meditation app Calm is a further partner and that its app will soon launch on both Gemini and Search.
Why Google is opening the door
Google’s pitch is that a broader catalogue of connected apps makes AI assistants more useful, so people can stay inside Search or Gemini instead of opening each service separately. The company frames the platform as an early way for businesses to stay visible as more everyday tasks move through AI agents. Timing for a wider public rollout beyond the US developer preview remains unstated.
