Ollie, a privacy-focused AI assistant built for families, will shut down on November 6, co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon said in a post on X on Friday. Lennon said the startup could not keep pace with a crowded field of text-based assistants or raise the money it needed to continue.
In his message, Lennon said he was proud of what the small team had built and grateful to staff, users, investors and supporters. He also said the company “got close, but ultimately couldn’t keep up,” naming Muse, Instinct and other entrants as rivals that made it harder to stand out, grow and raise capital.
What Ollie offered users
Ollie ran on a subscription model and aimed to help households stay organised and connected. The assistant could link a user’s email and calendar and support everyday tasks such as booking appointments, planning meals and paying bills. The company had also planned to expand into household budgeting.
Privacy was central to its pitch. Ollie was among the early mainstream consumer AI apps to achieve SOC 2, a privacy and security compliance standard checked through an independent audit. Lennon’s announcement framed that focus as hard to turn into a durable business as larger and better-funded assistants entered the same space.
Funding and the competitive squeeze
In September, Ollie discussed a $7.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures. Even with that capital, Lennon said industry pressure had taken its toll. The wider market for text-based AI assistants has expanded quickly as underlying models have become more useful for daily work, raising the bar for smaller products to attract users and new investment.
What customers should do next
Lennon said Ollie customers will receive instructions in the coming days on how to export their data and how to obtain refunds. Anyone still relying on the app for calendar, email or household tasks will need to move those workflows elsewhere before the November 6 shutdown.

Aasan alfaaz mein
Ollie naam ki privacy wali AI assistant 6 November ko band ho rahi hai. Company ke CEO Bill Lennon ne kaha ke competition zyada ho gaya aur zaroori funding nahi mil saki. Jo log is app ko use karte hain, unhen apna data export karne aur refund lene ke tareeqe jald milenge. Family calendar, bills aur planning ke liye pehle se doosra option sochna behtar hai.
