Jinnah Hospital denies patient deaths linked to power fault

JPMC’s executive director says a temporary cable overload was repaired under generator backup, and that fatalities stemmed from patients’ existing critical illnesses.

Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC, commonly called Jinnah Hospital) has rejected circulating claims that patients died because of a power failure at the facility. Executive Director Professor Khalid Sher said in a clarifying statement that the deaths were not caused by any interruption of electricity.

What the hospital says about the deaths

Professor Sher said the patients who died were already severely ill and in a critical condition. He linked the fatalities to their underlying medical complications rather than to any power problem. According to him, there is no evidence that connects any patient’s death to the electricity fault.

Temporary cable fault and repairs

The executive director described a temporary technical issue: a cable fault caused by electricity overload. He said the relevant technical teams identified the problem and started repair work. JPMC, he added, is fully operational and electricity supply at the hospital is continuing.

Care arrangements during the outage risk

To keep essential medical services running without a break, the hospital says generator backup is in place. Those arrangements, Professor Sher said, are meant to ensure uninterrupted care for patients while technical teams address the cable fault.

Claims about deaths during a hospital power problem can spread quickly in a large city like Karachi, where JPMC is a major public tertiary centre. The hospital’s position is that the technical fault did occur, but that it does not explain the deaths reported in connection with it, and that clinical services have remained available under backup power.

Aasan alfaaz mein
