The Engro Fertilizer dividend announcement comes after a sharp jump in profit. Engro Fertilizers Limited (PSX: EFERT) has announced a cash dividend of Rs5.50 per share for the July-September quarter of 2026, up from Rs4.50 in the same quarter a year earlier. Net profit rose 57% year on year to Rs9.1 billion, according to figures from Arif Habib Limited.
Profit, sales and costs
Earnings per share, the profit attributed to each ordinary share, came to Rs6.83 for the quarter, compared with Rs4.35 a year earlier. Net sales rose 45% to Rs79.6 billion, and gross profit, the money left after direct production costs, increased 56% to Rs27.9 billion. The company reported a gross margin of 35% for the quarter.
The main driver was fertilizer volumes. Urea, a nitrogen fertilizer widely used on Pakistani crops, offtake rose 175% quarter on quarter to 711,000 tons in September 2026. Sales of diammonium phosphate (DAP), a phosphate fertilizer, rose 168.4% year on year to 37,000 tons. The analysis linked these gains to better stock availability, stronger farm economics and plant shutdowns at competing producers, including Fatima Fertilizer, Fauji Fertilizer Company and Agritech Limited.
Costs also climbed. Distribution costs rose 33% to Rs7.1 billion, driven by higher sales volumes and rising fuel prices, and finance costs rose 90%. Industry sales were hit by transporter strikes during the period, the analysis said.
Dividend and payout ratio
The Rs5.50 dividend equals an 80% payout ratio, meaning about four-fifths of earnings is paid out to shareholders. The increase is Rs1 per share, or roughly 22% above last year's Rs4.50 (simple arithmetic on the announced figures). In the same period last year, that dividend was slightly above the quarter's earnings per share of Rs4.35, so the lower ratio this time marks a change in approach.
The analysis said the lower payout may reflect a more cautious approach to capital allocation, given potential liabilities. The company has not been quoted in the announcement explaining those liabilities, so investors will need to watch later statements for detail.
What happens next
The announcement, as reported, does not include a payment date. Shareholders following this Engro Fertilizer dividend announcement should check the company's notices on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for the book closure date, which decides who is eligible, and the payment date.
