Several Karachi areas win exemption
In the latest K-Electric load shedding news, the utility has declared several Karachi localities loadshed-exempt after its quarterly network review. The company linked the change to customers paying bills on time and sustained work against electricity theft, which improved feeder loss profiles across the city.
Areas that moved from the medium-loss to the low-loss category—and are now free of scheduled cuts—include parts of Korangi such as Abdullah Shah Noorani Colony, Pak Ittehad Colony, Zaman Town, and Sectors 48-A, B, C, D and E. In and around Azizabad, Block 2 and 8 of Federal B Area, Bhangoria Goth, Block 9 Yasinabad and Naimat Colony are among those listed. Kyani Shaheed and Randle Road, APWA Complex Road, Jubilee Cloth Market and Biltistani Mohalla in Jacob Lines also fall in this group, along with Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Colony, Altaf Town and Deh Dih Tapo Ibrahim Hyderi Goth. Some parts of the SITE industrial area and Sectors L-1 and 5-D in Surjani Town have likewise entered the exempt category.
Why feeder status changed
K-Electric said lower Aggregated Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses—power lost through network faults and unpaid or stolen supply—and closer work with local area representatives helped customers clear bills on time. That combination, it said, produced a positive shift in feeder profiles and underpins this round of K-Electric load shedding news for affected neighbourhoods.
Other localities moved from high loss to medium loss and will face reduced—not necessarily zero—load shedding. Those include Saadat Colony, Moria Khan Goth, Soldier Bazar, Tagore Street, Aminabad Society and Martin Quarters in Jamshed Town, plus Orangi Town pockets such as Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz, Millat Colony, Madina Colony and Al-Mustafa Colony.
How wide is exemption citywide?
Nearly 70 percent of KE’s service area, covering more than 2,100 feeders, remains loadshed-exempt. The updated schedule is on the company’s website and took effect at once. Customers can also check the KE Live App and KE’s WhatsApp service for the latest timing. The previous quarterly review was held in July 2026.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the company aims to give customers a “reliable and smooth supply” of electricity. He credited communities for showing that timely bill payment and joint efforts to cut line losses matter, and called the outcome a shared success for residents, area representatives and elected officials who helped curb theft.
