Karandaaz Pakistan has been accredited by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) — a major global pool of climate money — as a Direct Access entity, the firm said in a statement on Friday. The GCF Board approved the status at its 46th Board Meeting (B.46) in Songdo, Republic of Korea, bringing the Pakistani platform into the Fund’s global partnership network.
Direct Access accreditation means a national body can deal with the GCF without going only through international intermediaries. Karandaaz said the status will let it access, blend and channel global climate finance toward high-impact climate initiatives across Pakistan. Those efforts are to link with the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs — its pledged climate targets), the National Adaptation Plan and Pakistan’s Green Taxonomy, which guides what counts as green investment.
What the accreditation allows
As a national impact investment platform, Karandaaz said it will use the partnership to mobilise private capital, reduce risk around climate-smart projects, and support sectors hit hardest by climate volatility. In its statement, the organisation framed the step as a way to align financing decisions with national priorities, local economic structures and market needs.
Pakistan is widely regarded as highly exposed to climate shocks, and the statement stressed that meeting climate goals and building long-term economic resilience will require large flows of both international and domestic resources. Direct Access accreditation, it argued, is an important institutional route for keeping those flows closer to domestic planning and markets.
What GCF and Karandaaz said
Achala Abeysinghe, director of the GCF’s Department of Investment Services, said Karandaaz brings strong knowledge of local financial markets into the Fund’s partnership network. “Together, we can expand climate finance for businesses and financial institutions supporting Pakistan’s low-emission, climate-resilient development,” she said.
Waqas ul Hasan, chief executive officer of Karandaaz Pakistan, said the country needs deeper institutional ties with global financing facilities for sustainable, climate-resilient growth. Direct Access accreditation, he said, will help Karandaaz structure scalable climate interventions, ease liquidity bottlenecks for enterprise development, and draw private capital toward Pakistan’s national climate agenda.
What comes next
The accreditation itself does not announce a specific project list or funding amount. What it does open is a pathway for Karandaaz to design and channel GCF-linked finance for climate work that fits Pakistan’s stated plans. How quickly capital reaches farms, factories, cities or households will depend on the programmes Karandaaz and partners put forward after this institutional step.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Karandaaz Pakistan ko Green Climate Fund ne seedha paisa lene aur Pakistan mein climate projects ke liye use karne ki ijazat de di hai. Yeh decision Korea ke Songdo shehar mein GCF Board ki meeting mein hua. Iska matlab hai ke climate finance ab zyada qareeb se Pakistan ke apne plans ke mutabiq aa sakti hai. Aam logon ke liye seedha fayda tab nazar aayega jab is raaste se asl projects aur investment shuru honge.
