Pakistan and Iran reach the final
Pakistan and Iran have both booked places in the final of the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group III competition, having won their group ties on Saturday, 24 October. The title match will be held at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex in Islamabad, so Pakistan will have home supporters behind it. The Billie Jean King Cup is an international team competition for national women's teams, and Group III is one of its regional sections. Each tie is made up of singles and doubles matches, known as rubbers.
Pakistan beat top seeds Maldives 2–1 in Group A. Ushna Suhail won her singles match 6–2, 6–3 against Keyara Usama, and Mahin Aftab Qureshi won 6–1, 6–0 against Aishath Karin Saizan. Those two wins were enough to clinch the tie, so the doubles loss of Romaisa Malik and Hajra Sohail, who went down 4–6, 4–6 to Aishath Karin Saizan and Nayara Usama Ali, did not change the result. Pakistan will now aim to finish its campaign with the Group III title in front of home supporters.
Iran's sweep and the other ties
Iran beat Qatar 3–0 in Group B and dropped no sets. Yasaman Yazdani won 6–0, 6–0 against Dana Khalifa, and Kimia Sagheb Tehrani won 6–2, 6–1 against Mubaraka Al Naimi. Meshkatolzahra Safi and Hana Soltani completed the clean sweep in doubles with a 6–2, 7–6(2) win over Hind Almudahka and Khadija Gassama. Iran will go into the final aiming to keep that form.
In the other ties, Bhutan beat Bahrain 2–1 in Group A after Tenzin Wangsel Lhaden levelled the tie following a defeat for Tandin Tsheyang Wangmo. Jordan beat Kuwait 2–1 in Group B, with Anna Abualhaj and Noor Sayej winning their singles, while Kuwait took the doubles rubber.
