Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected claims by former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad that Pakistan is arming former Afghan personnel to fight the Afghan Taliban and recruiting Afghan nationals for that purpose. The ministry responded on October 24 in a fact-check posted on X.

The ministry said Khalilzad’s assertions recycled speculative narratives and reflected a personal agenda. It said linking Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations to recruiting Afghans or sponsoring armed groups was misleading.

To back its position, the ministry cited UN reports on Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda activity in Afghanistan. It blamed the Afghan Taliban administration for allowing its territory to be used by what it called India-sponsored proxies.

Aasan alfaaz mein: Pakistan ki information ministry ne Zalmay Khalilzad ke un dawon ko mustarad kiya hai ke Pakistan Afghan afraad ko Taliban ke khilaf aslah de raha hai. Ministry ne kaha ke yeh bayaniya purane aur zaati agenda par mabni hain.
