A federal youth scheme, the Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP), has signed a preliminary document with Physicians Revenue Group (PRG) to set up a secretariat in the United States. The aim is to widen US healthcare jobs for young Pakistanis. The document is a letter of intent, which records shared goals before any detailed commitments are drawn up.

The signing took place at the Prime Minister's Office during a meeting with Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, chairman of PMYP, in attendance. Dr Shahbaz Shamsi, director general of PMYP, and Mansoor Ahmed, chairman and chief executive of Physicians Revenue Group Pakistan, were also present, along with other officials and representatives.

A coordination platform in the United States

The proposed body, to be called the PMYP United States Secretariat for Healthcare Services Cooperation, would act as a meeting point between Pakistani institutions and American healthcare providers, universities, professional bodies and industry stakeholders. It would also reach out to the Pakistani-American medical community, with the goal of building institutional partnerships, sharing knowledge and supporting professional development.

The partners say the initiative is meant to match Pakistan's trained workforce with rising demand in the US healthcare market. They also hope it will help Pakistan sell more healthcare services abroad and promote longer-term employment. Target roles named in the announcement include healthcare administration, dental and medical billing, revenue cycle work, care coordination and health IT.

Standards, oversight and open questions

A second focus is writing industry standards and regulatory frameworks for Pakistan's medical billing and healthcare services sector. The proposed steps would be aligned with American rules on data safety, privacy and regulatory compliance, which the organisations say will build trust among US healthcare bodies.

Under the arrangement, a focal person and a secretariat coordinator will be appointed to oversee coordination. A joint working group from the two organisations will plan, monitor and review progress, and liaise with relevant institutions in Pakistan and the United States.

No timetable, job numbers or funding arrangements have been announced yet. Because the agreement is only a letter of intent, its scope and details could change as the two sides move toward a fuller arrangement.
