The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in Rawalpindi says the marks of an SSC third position holder are correct at 1,174, and that a higher figure on an online result card was a clerical mistake. The issue came up after a screenshot of the student's online result, taken on October 19, showed 1,175 marks. The board said the online entry will be corrected once the necessary procedure is complete.

The student is Musfirah Khalid, roll number 159679, who was declared overall third position holder in the SSC First Annual Examination with 1,174 marks out of a total of 1,200. She shared that position with two other girl students who had the same total. The printed result card, issued soon after results were announced on August 6, also shows 1,174 marks.

What the board said after re-checking

After the screenshot was brought to its notice, BISE said it reviewed the relevant record under its rules and regulations. Following verification of all related records, the board concluded that the score of 1,174 marks is correct and has not been changed. It said the 1,175 entry on the online card came from a clerical mistake.

BISE spokesperson Arsalan Cheema said there was no discrepancy in the result and that the student had not complained about any change in her marks. He said the board's review found that her original score remained 1,174. He added that errors of this kind can occur while results are uploaded online. He also said the student attended a cash award ceremony on Tuesday and collected her prize money without raising any concern.

The ceremony was held at the BISE Rawalpindi complex to honour top performers in the SSC First Annual Examination 2026. Each position holder received a cash prize of Rs100,000. BISE Chairman Prof. Dr. Iqbal Mahmood said the awards were announced by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to recognise merit.

Staff changes and open questions

Officials at the board, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a thorough inquiry was still needed because top positions are announced only after detailed, multi-layered checks. They said an officer order dated October 20 gave additional charge of the System Analyst post to senior computer programmer Asif Mehmood, after System Analyst Muhammad Afzal Bhatti went on leave due to sudden illness. The order said the arrangement was made to prepare for the 11th Class results.

The officials also said Bhatti fell ill because of pressure linked to the reported discrepancy. This link has not been confirmed, and it is not addressed in the board's own statement. The officials' call for an inquiry also differs from the spokesperson's position that there was no discrepancy to investigate.
