Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported 99 new dengue cases in the latest 24-hour period, its highest single-day count of 2026, which lifted the provincial total to 4,091. The figures come from the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System (IDSRS), and they show dengue cases in KPK still rising during October. Kohat is the main hotspot, and the provincial health department is working to contain the outbreak there.
Kohat accounts for most of the rise
According to the IDSRS report, 144 patients are currently suffering from dengue, while 3,946 have recovered. One person from Tank died of the disease in Dera Ismail Khan, and earlier figures had put the provincial death toll at two.
Kohat has recorded 2,567 cases, followed by Peshawar with 566, Bannu with 192, Khyber with 120 and Haripur with 112. Charsadda reported 75 cases and Abbottabad 71, while the remaining districts have single-digit counts. Kohat has logged 80 cases since the start of October, compared with 24 in Bannu and 18 in Peshawar, which is why health experts call it a new hotspot this year.
The earlier and latest totals differ, and the 99 new cases in the latest day do not fully explain the gap, so the figures should be read as updated tallies. Experts warned that the coming weeks remain critical, because favourable mosquito-breeding conditions could push case numbers higher.
Governor orders emergency steps
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi chaired a high-level meeting on the outbreak, attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Health Nigar Johar, the Health Secretary and other senior officials. Officials briefed him on the latest figures, the factors driving the spread, the anti-dengue action plan and containment efforts across the province.
Kundi expressed concern over the rising numbers and directed the district administration to take immediate, emergency-level measures to control the outbreak in Kohat. He also asked officials to provide regular updates on anti-dengue campaigns.
Health experts said the overall situation remains better than last year, when KP recorded more than 6,000 dengue cases, including over 1,000 in Charsadda during an outbreak in several union councils. Dengue cases in KPK this year are therefore lower overall, even as Kohat's rise raises fresh concern.
