The ECP hearing on Punjab LG cases is scheduled for October 28, when the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will take up key cases on local government elections in Punjab and in the Rawalpindi Cantonment. The commission has asked senior officials from the Punjab government and the defence establishment to appear and present their positions. The schedule appears in a revised cause list, which is the ECP's list of matters due for hearing, issued on Thursday.
Who has been asked to appear
In the Punjab case, the commission has directed the chief secretary and the secretary of local government to appear in person. A separate case on local government elections in the cantonment boards will be heard on the same day. For that matter, the secretary defence and the director general of the Military Lands and Cantonments Department in Rawalpindi have been asked to attend in person or send authorised representatives. Cantonment boards are local government bodies in military cantonment areas.
Timing and what comes next
The ECP hearing on Punjab LG cases is set for 12:30pm, according to the revised cause list. No decision on either case has been announced so far. At the sitting, officials from both sides are expected to put their positions before the commission, which will then decide how to proceed.
