The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan’s federal anti-corruption and investigation body, has arrested a Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) lineman in Lahore after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs8,000 from a citizen to carry out an official task.

An FIA spokesperson said on Friday that the accused, identified as Shahid Imran, was posted at the Thokar Niaz Baig LESCO sub-division. LESCO is the public utility that supplies electricity in Lahore and surrounding areas. Officers from the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore detained him while he was allegedly accepting the money from the complainant.

What the FIA says happened

According to the FIA, Shahid Imran had demanded and received Rs8,000 in exchange for facilitating a legitimate official matter—work that should have been done without any extra payment. The agency described the arrest as red-handed, meaning he was seized at the point of allegedly taking the bribe rather than after a later inquiry alone.

The spokesperson did not detail the exact nature of the official task beyond saying it was a legitimate matter that the citizen was entitled to have processed. No other suspects were named in the account given so far.

Case status and next steps

A case has been registered against the accused, the FIA said, and further investigation is under way. That process typically involves recording statements, securing any recovered cash as evidence, and examining whether the demand was a one-off or part of a wider pattern—though the agency has not yet said what lines of inquiry it will pursue beyond the arrest itself.

For households and businesses that deal with LESCO staff for connections, meter work or other field services, the case underlines that seeking or paying unofficial fees for routine work is illegal and can lead to criminal action against the official involved.

Aasan alfaaz mein

FIA ne Lahore mein LESCO ke aik lineman Shahid Imran ko pakra hai. Un par ilzaam hai ke unhon ne ek shehri se Rs8,000 ki rishwat li. Yeh Thokar Niaz Baig subdivision se related case hai. Sarkari kaam ke liye rishwat dena ya lena dono galat aur qanooni masla hai.
