The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a Rawalpindi man over an alleged Malaysia work visa scam in which a citizen was said to have been cheated of Rs545,000 on the promise of overseas employment papers.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Yaqoob, was taken into custody in Rawalpindi by the agency’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle. An FIA spokesperson linked the arrest to FIR No. 83/2026 and said the complainant had been promised a Malaysia work visa in return for the money.
How the arrest unfolded
According to the FIA spokesperson, a team made up of Inspector Iqra Jahangir and FC Atif Sajjad carried out the arrest. Inspector Jahangir is leading the investigation. The Anti-Human Trafficking Circle handles cases involving illegal recruitment and related abuse of people seeking work abroad.
Officials have framed the matter as alleged fraud tied to a Malaysia visa arrangement rather than a completed legal migration process. No conviction has been reported; the case remains under investigation.
What FIA says comes next
The spokesperson said investigators will also examine whether other people were involved in the scheme. Their roles, if any, will be determined as the inquiry moves forward. For now, the publicly confirmed details centre on Yaqoob’s arrest in Rawalpindi, the Rs545,000 figure cited in the complaint, and the FIR number.
Pakistanis looking for jobs abroad are often asked for large upfront payments. When those payments are made against a promised visa that never arrives, families can lose savings meant for travel, fees, and household needs. FIA’s action in this Malaysia work visa scam case is one enforcement step; the agency has not yet publicly named co-accused or described further recoveries.
Anyone approached with similar offers should treat large cash demands for “guaranteed” visas with caution and deal only through documented, lawful channels. This report covers only what FIA has stated about the Rawalpindi arrest and the linked FIR.
