The Islamabad High Court has fixed 5 November for a hearing on a petition that seeks an Imran Khan jail meeting at Adiala Jail. Members of a national dialogue committee filed the plea, naming the interior secretary, the Punjab home secretary and the Adiala Jail superintendent as respondents. The matter is listed for Thursday along with objections raised by the high court’s registrar office.
Who filed the plea and what they asked for
The petitioners include Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail, Mahmood Moulvi and Barrister Saif. They asked the court to allow a meeting with the PTI founder under the Pakistan Prison Rules—the country’s formal jail visit rules—and to direct the Adiala Jail superintendent to arrange that visit.
In the plea they described themselves as friends of the PTI founder and said they were worried about his health. According to the petition, visits have not been allowed for several months, and that block has fuelled rumours on social media.
Why the case was brought to the IHC
The petitioners said the ban on jail visits has also caused concern and anxiety among the public. They told the court they had approached it for political stability, the supremacy of the constitution and national reconciliation.
The petition argued that denying jail visits violated Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution and breached jail rules. It further contended that the denial runs against the Nelson Mandela Rules of the United Nations on the treatment of prisoners. On that basis, the applicants pressed for court orders enabling an Imran Khan jail meeting through the prison superintendent.
What happens next
The IHC will take up the petition on 5 November, including the registrar office’s objections. Until the court rules, the request for a supervised visit under the Pakistan Prison Rules remains pending against the federal and Punjab home authorities and the Adiala Jail administration named in the plea.
Aasan alfaaz mein
National dialogue committee ke kuch members ne Islamabad High Court mein darkhwast di hai ke Imran Khan se Adiala Jail mein mulakat ho. Un ka kehna hai ke kai mahinon se visits band hain aur health aur afwahon ki pareshani hai. Court ne yeh case 5 November ko sunne ke liye rakh diya hai. Ab faisla court ka hoga ke mulakat ki ijazat milti hai ya nahi.
