Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday supervised the demolition of Khanna Police Station Islamabad, which stood on the greenbelt along Islamabad Expressway, in an operation against encroachments and illegal occupation of government land in the federal capital.

The Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police took part. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad and other concerned officials were also present at the site.

Why the station was taken down

Officials framed the action as part of a wider campaign to clear structures built on public land and to free green spaces along major corridors. The building’s location on the Expressway greenbelt put it among sites the administration treats as unauthorised occupation of state land.

Speaking during the operation, Naqvi said Khanna Police Station had been moved temporarily to an alternative site. He said a new location had been allocated legally and that a new building would be constructed there, so policing work would not stop while the greenbelt structure came down.

What the minister said on site

Naqvi said no government department, private organisation or individual would be allowed to occupy government land. He added that land held by departments under the Interior Ministry was also being retrieved in the same drive.

He pointed to the earlier demolition of an FC camp office near the Marriott Hotel as another step against unauthorised structures on government land. He directed that action against encroachments continue without discrimination between government offices, private groups and individuals.

What officials say comes next

The minister said the aim was to remove encroachments from Islamabad completely and to keep the capital a city with green spaces and without illegal occupation of public land. He reiterated that retrieval of occupied government land would continue wherever it had been taken over.

For residents near the Expressway corridor, the immediate change is the removal of the old Khanna Police Station Islamabad building from the greenbelt and the station’s temporary relocation while a permanent, legally allotted building is planned.
