Nationwide holiday on November 9
The federal government has announced a nationwide public holiday on Monday, November 9, 2026, to mark the birth anniversary of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming that the Iqbal Day holiday will be observed across the country.
The decision follows the annual holiday schedule released on January 19, 2026. All federal ministries and government departments have been told to put the holiday into effect.
Who will be off work and school
Public and private offices, along with educational institutions, will remain closed on the day. For employees and students whose weekend falls on Saturday and Sunday, the break stretches across three consecutive days, from November 7 to 9.
Normal office and educational activities are due to resume on Tuesday, November 10. Households that depend on weekday school and office routines should plan travel, caregiving, and errands around that return date.
What the notice covers
The Cabinet Division’s confirmation places the Iqbal Day holiday within the year’s published calendar rather than as a one-off surprise. Federal ministries and departments are expected to implement the same nationwide closure, so government counters and related services that usually operate on weekdays will not be open on November 9.
Private offices and schools are also included in the closure described in the announcement. Readers should still check local employer or campus notices for any site-specific arrangements, but the federal position is a countrywide public holiday on that Monday.
