PESHAWAR — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission has sealed 1,465 illegal medical centres across the province over the past three months, according to its latest performance report released on Friday.
The commission, the provincial body that regulates clinics and other healthcare facilities, said the drive formed part of wider checks on how centres operate, register and respond to patient complaints. Its report sets out inspection numbers, licensing figures and complaint outcomes for the same three-month window.
Inspections and sealing across the province
Officials said teams inspected 6,673 medical facilities in that period. Where rules were broken, action went further than a warning: 2,668 centres were issued notices seeking explanations for various violations, and 1,465 illegal medical centres were sealed.
Sealing removes an unlicensed or non-compliant outlet from providing care until it meets the commission’s requirements. The figures show that a large share of inspected sites faced some form of regulatory follow-up, from written notices to closure.
Registration, licensing and what officials say
Alongside enforcement, the commission reported progress on bringing facilities into the formal system. It registered 610 new medical centres in the three months, bringing the province’s total registered healthcare facilities to 22,910.
Full licences were granted to 52 medical centres in the same period. That lifted the number of fully licensed facilities since 2023 to 326. Registration means a facility is on the official books; a full licence is a stricter approval that the commission treats as a mark of compliance.
Spokesperson Azam Rehman said the commission had also worked to improve registration and licensing and to address public complaints. Director of operations Arsalan Ahmed Khan said the registration and licensing process is meant to ensure quality healthcare services for the public.
Complaints handled so far
The commission received 267 public complaints about healthcare services during the period and reported that 203 of them had been resolved. That leaves a smaller share still open or under process, based on the numbers in the report.
Residents who use private clinics or diagnostic centres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can treat registration and licensing status as a basic check before seeking treatment, while the commission’s complaint channel remains a route for unresolved service problems.
