The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the province’s technology-backed policing body, has detected 2,419 environmental violations across Punjab in the past seven days. The drive forms part of a crackdown on smog and air pollution under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s clean and healthy Punjab initiative. A PSCA spokesperson said the cases led to 1,236 fines and 796 warnings.

How the violations broke down

Surveillance cameras, drones and coordinated field action were used to spot pollution sources. The authority identified 1,280 smoke-emitting vehicles and issued electronic challans against them. Separately, 1,238 vehicles were found carrying construction materials without protective tarpaulins; 639 of those operators were fined and 469 received warnings.

Officials also logged 129 smoke-emission violations at barbecue points and chimneys, with 121 warnings issued. Of 33 brick kiln incidents, 21 were referred to the relevant departments. Nineteen of 21 industrial pollution cases were forwarded for action. Six crop-residue burning incidents were detected: one case was registered and four were referred onwards.

Enforcement and public reporting

The spokesperson said technology-based monitoring was strengthening enforcement and helping protect public health. Residents were asked to report smoke-emitting vehicles, crop-residue burning and other pollution-related breaches through Police Emergency Helpline 15.

Taken together, the week’s figures show a wide net—from roadside vehicle smoke to industrial sites and seasonal field burning—rather than a single type of offence. Most vehicle-related cases were handled through fines, warnings or e-challans, while kiln, industrial and stubble-burning matters were more often sent to other departments for follow-up.
