Singapore foreign minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)—the military’s public information wing—the Friday meeting centred on regional security, bilateral relations, and openings to expand cooperation between Pakistan and Singapore.

What the two sides discussed

ISPR said both sides took up matters of mutual interest and the changing regional and global security picture. They also looked at practical ways to improve cooperation. Officials exchanged views on regional peace and stability and underlined the value of steady engagement in areas where the two countries share goals.

The Singapore foreign minister’s visit to GHQ offered a formal setting for that exchange. The statement framed the talks as covering both immediate security concerns and longer-term avenues for working together.

Pakistan’s message on ties with Singapore

Field Marshal Asim Munir restated Pakistan’s commitment to stronger relations with Singapore. He stressed the need for deeper institutional linkages—closer working channels between state institutions—and constructive engagement meant to support regional peace, stability, and security.

ISPR said the discussion reflected a shared interest in widening cooperation and keeping contact regular as regional and international security conditions continue to shift.

Singapore’s response

Dr Balakrishnan reciprocated Pakistan’s interest in firmer bilateral ties. He appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability, the ISPR statement said.

Both sides, according to the military’s account, treated sustained engagement as important for managing shared security interests and for building on existing diplomatic and defence-related contact.
