The US embassy in Riyadh has ordered non-emergency US government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia because of safety risks. The embassy linked the move to Houthi attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure.

Why the order was issued

According to the US embassy in Riyadh, the departure order covers staff who are not required for emergency work, along with their dependents. The embassy said the step follows recent missile and drone attacks that have hit civilian airports and other key sites inside the kingdom.

The Houthis are an Iran-aligned armed group based in Yemen. They have for years been in conflict with a Saudi-led coalition that supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government. That fighting, the embassy’s warning implies, is again putting airports and other infrastructure at risk.

Airport rules and travel warnings

US government employees now need special authorisation before they can use Saudi airports, the embassy said, after the recent missile and drone strikes. The restriction applies to official personnel; it is separate from the wider advice given to private travellers.

The embassy also warned US citizens that further attacks remain possible. It flagged the risk of airspace closures, flight cancellations and other travel disruptions if the security situation worsens again.

The wider fighting

Fighting between Yemen’s Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition has intensified in recent weeks. The flare-up has been described as opening a volatile new front in a wider conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran—raising the stakes for anyone living in or travelling through Saudi Arabia while the attacks continue.

For now, the clearest official signal from Washington’s mission in the kingdom is the partial drawdown of non-emergency staff and the tighter rules on how remaining US government employees may use Saudi airports.

Aasan alfaaz mein

America ke embassy ne Riyadh mein non-emergency staff aur unke ghar walon ko Saudi Arabia chhorne ka hukum diya hai. Wajah Houthi hamlay hain jo airports aur ahim infra structure par hue.
