Wholesale price readings show Pakistan wholesale inflation rising to 13.79% year-on-year in October, from 13.33% in September. That is the strongest pace for this measure since April 2024.
The pickup was uneven across product groups. Costs rose faster for other transportable goods, which climbed to 38.64% year-on-year from 34.31% in September. The broad food, beverages, tobacco, textiles and leather group edged up to 6.85% from 6.56%.
Where prices rose and where they slowed
Within that food-related group, inflation for food, beverages and tobacco strengthened to 8.43% from 8.04%. Textiles and apparel inflation stood at 2.46%, and leather products at 20.64%, both described as steady compared with the previous month.
Metal products, machinery and equipment also ticked higher, to 5.24% from 5.14%. By contrast, year-on-year increases eased for ores, minerals, electricity, gas and water, to 4.43% from 7.28%, and for agriculture, forestry and fishery, to 6.38% from 7.29%.
Month-on-month change
On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose by 0.9% in October after a 1.9% increase in September. A smaller month-on-month rise can still leave the year-on-year rate higher if prices a year earlier were lower.
Wholesale inflation measures price changes at the producer and bulk-trade level, before many goods reach shop shelves. Shifts here often feed into retail prices for food, fuel-linked items and manufactured goods over time, though the path and timing vary by product.
