New chief takes the helm
Adrian Hamilton-Manns PIA CEO duties began on Monday, 2 November 2026, after the airline's board confirmed him as chief executive. Directors said he will guide Pakistan International Airlines through its present overhaul and push to make the business commercially stronger.
The board presents him as a specialist in restructuring troubled carriers and restoring profitable operations. His arrival is among the earliest senior management moves since private operators assumed control of the flag carrier in mid-2026.
Career path and mandate
Before Karachi, Hamilton-Manns ran Muscat's SalamAir, a budget airline he led from July 2024. From April 2020 through July 2024 he was president and chief executive of Kazakhstan's FlyArystan. Between 2012 and 2016 he was founding chief of the Africa-focused low-cost operator flyafrica.com, completing a record as top executive at three carriers.
Earlier commercial posts spanned IndiGo in India, South African Airways, Pacific Blue under Virgin Australia, and Mandala Airlines in Indonesia. His first aviation job was at Air New Zealand in 1997. In total he has spent more than three decades in the sector.
The board chair welcomed Adrian Hamilton-Manns as PIA CEO and said that depth of airline experience should speed strategic goals, lift passenger service quality, and move the company toward lasting profits.
Handover from Amir Hayat
Hamilton-Manns replaces Air Vice Marshal (retd) Amir Hayat, also referred to in some notices as Aamir Hayat, who spent roughly four and a half years in the role. The consortium and board thanked him for steering the carrier through a difficult transition, citing structural reforms, tighter day-to-day operations, and groundwork for privatisation.
Directors also linked his tenure to stronger internal safety practice and to European and British regulators ending long-running limits on PIA flights. The board chair said the airline was "immensely grateful" for Hayat's "steadfast commitment" during a complex hand-over period.
