Weekly inflation in Pakistan eased in the latest reading, with the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)—the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ weekly gauge of essential prices—falling 0.35% for the week ended 29 October 2026. The PBS said the index for the combined consumption group dropped to 373.51 points from 374.84 a week earlier. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI was still up 11.32%, showing that short-term relief sits against higher prices than last year.
What moved prices this week
Electricity charges for the first quarter recorded the largest weekly fall, down 3.92%. Chicken prices declined 2.95% and eggs 2.81%. Wheat flour eased 0.83%, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) 0.73% and bananas 0.71%. Smaller weekly declines included IRRI-6/9 rice and pulse masoor (0.43% each), petrol (0.39%), sugar (0.35%) and powdered milk (0.33%).
Not every kitchen staple got cheaper. Tomatoes rose 34.91% week-on-week—the sharpest jump among the 51 items. Potatoes increased 3.27% and diesel 2.53%. Pulse gram was up 2.11%, plain bread 1.29%, onions 0.62%, fresh milk 0.48% and curd 0.46%. Vegetable ghee in the 2.5kg pack rose 0.29% and firewood 0.20%.
Across the basket, prices of 15 items (29.41%) rose, 12 (23.53%) fell and 24 (47.06%) stayed the same. The SPI, with base year 2015-16 equal to 100, covers 51 essential items in 17 urban centres.
How different income groups fared
Relief was uneven across spending brackets. For the lowest consumption group (up to Rs17,732), the SPI fell only 0.07%, to 357.92 from 358.18. Groups spending Rs17,733–22,888, Rs22,889–29,517 and Rs29,518–44,175 saw declines of 0.25%, 0.20% and 0.22% respectively. Households above Rs44,175 recorded the largest weekly drop, at 0.41%.
That pattern means higher-spending urban households saw a clearer weekly easing in the SPI than the poorest bracket, even though the overall inflation rate in Pakistan on this measure still looks elevated compared with last year.
Year-on-year pressure and other costs
Compared with the same week a year earlier, LPG was 106.86% more expensive—the steepest annual rise listed. Electricity for the first quarter was up 52.38%, diesel 45.13% and petrol 43.61%. Wheat flour rose 34.87% year-on-year and chicken 31.72%. Other annual increases included powdered chillies (15.55%), mutton (14.66%), plain bread (12.26%), beef (12.10%), onions (8.99%) and prepared tea (8.41%).
Some foods were cheaper than a year ago: potatoes down 38.67%, tomatoes 27.99%, eggs 26.70% and sugar 25.21%. Powdered salt, gur, pulse masoor and pulse moong also fell annually. A 50kg bag of Sona urea stayed at Rs4,781 for the week—unchanged week-on-week but 9.39% above last year—while a 50kg cement bag edged down 0.27% to Rs1,592, still 14.48% higher year-on-year.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Is haftay Pakistan mein weekly inflation thori kam hui: SPI 0.35% geera. Kai cheezein jaise bijli, chicken aur anday sasti hui, lekin tamatar bohot mehnge hue. Salana hisaab se ab bhi prices pichlay saal se 11.32% zyada hain. Ghar ka kharcha abhi bhi mehnga mehsoos ho sakta hai, khasoos kar gas, petrol aur aate ke side par.
