The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan’s federal crime investigation body, has a proclaimed offender arrested after 16 years on the run in a human trafficking case. An FIA official said on Sunday that Noor Ahmed was taken into custody in Mandi Bahauddin by a team from the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Rawalpindi, working under the FIA Islamabad Zone.

How the arrest unfolded

The special operation followed directions from the Director of the FIA Islamabad Zone. The Deputy Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Rawalpindi formed a dedicated team to pursue proclaimed offenders. Inspector Zahid Bhatti led that team, with Assistant Sub-Inspector Rafiq and Head Constable Waqas Gujjar among its members.

The official said the team traced Noor Ahmed and completed the arrest after he had stayed out of reach for 16 years. With the proclaimed offender arrested in Mandi Bahauddin, investigators have brought a long-standing wanted person back into the case file.

The 2010 trafficking case

Noor Ahmed was wanted in FIR No. 243/2010. He was alleged to have helped citizens move illegally to Greece through Iran and Turkiye on human smuggling routes. Human smuggling here means arranging or aiding overseas travel outside legal channels, often at high risk for the travellers and their families.

The same official said the role of other people named or linked to the case would be assessed during further investigation. No court outcome or sentence was announced with the arrest.
