A Karachi police firing episode left 21-year-old Shuraim Khalid with a gunshot injury near the small of his back in Nazimabad No 3. His relatives insist uniformed officers were responsible. Officers insist he was struck during a clash with suspects and that those suspects’ rounds caused the wound.
Kin say he was riding with cousin Muhammad Tayyab on an errand for a motorcycle spare when the patrol opened fire. Officials describe the same stretch as an encounter after riders they judged suspicious were asked to stop.
Relatives’ version of the stop
Tayyab’s account is that nobody waved them down or ordered a pull-over before three rounds arrived from the rear. He said a clear warning would have made them halt. One round, he recalled, skimmed near his feet; another hit Shuraim near the lumbar area.
Family members say those same personnel then carried the wounded man to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Treatment continued later at Jinnah Hospital. In a hospital recording, Shuraim argued that an officer’s error left him needing care and that a private clinic sought a minimum of Rs200,000 only to admit him. He asked the force to help with that cost, saying the fault was theirs.
His mother described him as the household’s only earner and said wedding plans were near. She pressed for accountability and asked that the officers who brought him to Abbasi appear before her, questioning what recompense would exist had he died.
Officers’ version in the case file
Nazimabad station booked the matter on Constable Shehraz’s complaint. That narrative states a patrol tried to stop motorcyclists it found suspicious, that those riders allegedly shot at the team, and that personnel answered with return fire. The force maintains Shuraim’s injury came from the suspects’ weapons, not from police guns.
Scene examiners from the Crime Scene Unit collected nine casings of 9mm calibre and thirty of .30 bore at the spot. Officials said work on this Karachi police firing matter remains open.
Readers following Karachi crime news will see the clash is less about whether shots rang out than about sequence: who fired first, and whether any halt order was clear before live rounds flew on a residential road.
