The PM Chromebook Scheme 2026 is a federal plan to give 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks to high-performing students—mainly Grade 9—over the next two years, with selection on academic merit and online applications through an Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) portal. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the programme on 25 October 2026 at a ceremony in Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
Who runs it and what students receive
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training is to implement the scheme with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. The Tokyo Technology Care Foundation (TT Care Foundation) has undertaken to supply the Chromebooks under a letter of understanding. Selected students are also to receive bags and MiFi devices so they can use the internet for online classes and digital libraries from home. One description of the initiative also refers to free internet connectivity for one year with the devices.
Speaking at the launch, the prime minister said intelligence and hard work should not be “held captive by wealth and poverty,” and that merit and hard work would be the sole criteria for choosing beneficiaries. He linked the effort to earlier PML-N laptop distributions, recalling that about 600,000 laptops had been given out over a decade, including support for studies during the Covid-19 period.
PM Chromebook Scheme 2026 eligibility criteria
Federal eligibility details say students must have secured at least 50 per cent marks in their latest Secondary School Certificate Part-I (SSC-I) or Grade 9 examinations to be considered. The IBCC—the body that coordinates school examination boards—will verify results. Selections are to be made strictly on merit within provincial and regional allocations, education boards and academic streams.
Eligible institutions named in those details include public-sector schools, privately managed schools supported by provincial governments or educational foundations, and registered madaris (religious seminaries). A separate account says only government or public school students may apply and that private school students are not eligible. Applicants should confirm their school category on the official portal before submitting forms.
In Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan the focus is on top-performing Grade 9 (SSC-I) students. Students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan may also apply from Grade 10 (SSC-II), according to one set of guidance. Each education board may set its own merit cutoff above the 50 per cent floor.
How to apply online and how devices are shared
Under the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026, students apply online at pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk. Applicants select their education board, enter their CNIC or B-Form number and date of birth, wait for the system to verify the record, then upload documents and submit the form. Required uploads described so far include a recent passport-style photo and the SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet.
Quota figures published with the scheme assign 181,090 Chromebooks to Punjab, 85,925 to Sindh, 51,170 to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,815 to Balochistan, 100,000 to Islamabad, and 25,000 each to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The prime minister said the full allocation is to be completed within two years.
