Independent United Nations human rights investigators have told the General Assembly that Israel keeps committing genocidal acts in Gaza and has carried out war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians. In a fresh UN Gaza report presented in Geneva, the panel says those patterns did not end when the October 2025 ceasefire took effect.
The findings come from the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. The UN Human Rights Council created the body in 2021. Its members are unpaid outside experts, not UN employees.
What the inquiry concluded
The commission argues that Israeli officials and troops still pursue steps meant to destroy the Palestinian people, wholly or partly, even under the post-truce arrangements. It lists crimes against humanity that, in its view, stretch across occupied Palestinian territory: mass killing framed as extermination, persecution, torture, and sexual violence including rape.
In Gaza, the investigators say expanding Israeli territorial control keeps harming civilians who near or cross the “yellow line” — the pull-back line forces adopted under the October 2025 ceasefire. They describe continued lethal force against people who approach that boundary.
West Bank findings and the casualty count
Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said deliberate civilian deaths and injuries in the West Bank, together with the wrecking of homes and Israel’s refusal to accept blame, fit a larger plan to wipe out and uproot Palestinians and leave living conditions impossible to endure. The same UN Gaza report records West Bank crimes against humanity that include extermination, torture, and sexual violence.
From the October 2025 ceasefire through late September 2026, the panel attributes 1,431 Palestinian deaths in Gaza — 300 of them children — and 1,080 in the West Bank to Israeli airstrikes and gunfire.
Israel’s response
Israel rejected the conclusions. Its permanent mission in Geneva called the document part of a misinformation drive meant to demonise the state and cast its existence as criminal.
