Lahore’s General Bus Stand (Lari Adda) police on Sunday arrested a man in a case of prize bond fraud in Lahore after a private bank reported an attempt to draw prize money on a tampered bond.
Police identified the accused as Suba Khan. They say he went to the bank and asked for payment, claiming his Rs750 prize bond had won a prize. Prize bonds are a widely used savings instrument in Pakistan; holders can win cash prizes in official draws if their bond’s number is selected.
How the bank raised the alarm
According to police, the bank verified the bond before paying out. That check showed the serial number on the document was invalid. Staff then contacted the police instead of releasing any money.
Acting on that tip, Lari Adda police arrested Suba Khan and registered a case. Officers allege the bond had been tampered with so it could be presented as a winning instrument.
What police say so far
Police describe the episode as an attempt to obtain prize money through a doctored Rs750 prize bond. They have not publicly released further personal details about the accused, the name of the bank, or the exact prize amount he sought beyond the bond’s face value of Rs750.
The arrest underlines how banks are expected to confirm serial numbers before honouring prize bond claims. In this instance, that routine check is what led to the Lahore police arrest and the formal case.
