The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a comprehensive province-wide operation to enforce a strict number plate check in Punjab, targeting vehicles operating with fake, cloned, or tampered registration marks. Surveillance cameras across 43 smart safe cities, including Lahore, are actively scanning traffic to intercept offenders.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the surveillance network automatically identifies suspicious registration plates and generates instant alerts for monitoring officers. The automated system also detects vehicles whose registration marks have been deliberately obscured using cloth, tape, or other physical obstructions.

How the surveillance system tracks violators

Once automated cameras detect a fraudulent or modified registration mark, control room personnel dispatch direct alerts to nearby police units on the ground. Several suspicious vehicles have already been intercepted and seized across Lahore and various districts of Punjab following these real-time notifications.

Legal action is underway against those involved. The spokesperson confirmed that formal legal proceedings, including the registration of criminal cases where applicable, have been initiated against motorists driving vehicles with cloned or modified identifiers.

Zero-tolerance policy and public advisory

The authority emphasized that it has adopted a zero-tolerance stance toward any attempt to disguise vehicle identities. Officials noted that masking or tampering with plates severely compromises law enforcement efforts and can facilitate broader criminal activities.

Motorists across the province have been instructed to display only original, government-issued registration marks that match official documentation and remain clearly legible at all times. The authority also issued an advisory for car owners, urging anyone who discovers that their registration mark has been duplicated on another vehicle to report the violation immediately by calling the police emergency Helpline 15.
