TeamViewer versions before 15.83 open to code-execution risk

Pakistan’s National CERT says a high-severity TeamViewer flaw (CVE-2026-111585, CVSS 8.8) needs an urgent upgrade to version 15.83 or later.

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT), the country’s cyber incident coordination body, has issued a TeamViewer security alert for organisations that rely on the popular remote-control app. It warns of a high-severity vulnerability that could let attackers run their own code on affected machines if a remote session is abused.

The issue is tracked as CVE-2026-111585 and carries a Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) rating of 8.8. National CERT says the root cause is an integer overflow while the software handles remote-control screen data. If exploited, the flaw can disrupt service, crash systems, or allow arbitrary code to run with the same rights as the TeamViewer viewer process.

Which versions need fixing

The advisory covers TeamViewer clients older than 15.83 on Windows, Linux and macOS. TeamViewer Portable for Windows and some versions of the Android remote-control app are also listed as affected. Separate fixes apply to older 14.x and 13.x branches.

National CERT says version 15.83 or any later release closes the hole. Users still on legacy lines should move to 14.7.48868 or 13.2.36231, depending on which branch they run. Organisations that use TeamViewer for remote access, technical support or system administration have been told to find vulnerable installs and upgrade without delay.

How attackers could abuse the flaw

Successful misuse is not automatic. National CERT stressed that an attacker needs a remote-control session involving a host they control or have already compromised. In that setting, the screen-data flaw could escalate into denial of service, instability, or code execution on the viewer side.

That framing matters for IT teams: the risk is highest where untrusted or weakly verified remote connections are still allowed, not where TeamViewer is simply installed and idle.

Steps National CERT recommends

Alongside patching, the TeamViewer security alert urges tighter operational controls. Organisations should limit remote sessions to approved people and trusted devices, confirm connection requests before accepting them, review who holds access rights, and watch remote-session logs together with endpoint security alerts.

National CERT also advises keeping connection logs, authentication records and endpoint security data so investigators can reconstruct suspicious activity. If a breach is suspected, teams should check the devices involved, restrict or switch off remote access where needed, and call in specialist incident-response help if unauthorised code execution looks likely.

Aasan alfaaz mein

National CERT ne TeamViewer ke bare mein warning di hai ke purane versions mein serious security masla hai. Hackers remote session ke zariye system crash ya apna code chalane ki koshish kar sakte hain. Apne office ya ghar ke TeamViewer ko 15.83 ya us se naye version par update kar lein. Jab tak update na ho, sirf trusted logon ko remote access dein aur suspicious connections reject karein.
