Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to providing full support to security forces in their efforts to recover the abducted Rakhshan Commissioner and the brother of Meena Majeed. Speaking at a press conference in Quetta on Tuesday, the minister emphasized that the threat of terrorism can only be countered through national unity, effective legislation, and close coordination between state institutions.

Accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat and Media Aide Shahid Rind, the minister stated that the state is currently passing through a sensitive period. He urged political leaders to set aside differences and avoid statements that could weaken public confidence in security forces. The Balochistan Home Minister noted that while militants often target soft civilian targets, security agencies continue to foil numerous plots to maintain stability.

Security Operations and Legislative Reforms

During the briefing, officials shared that the provincial government is providing complete cooperation to security agencies, including financial resources and legislative backing. Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat detailed that 18 new counter-terrorism laws have been approved to strengthen the legal framework. Furthermore, 17 new security structures and special courts have been established to streamline the justice process for terrorism-related cases.

Data shared during the session revealed that law enforcement agencies have conducted over 60,000 operations across Balochistan up to October. These actions resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 terrorists, including 250 killed specifically in Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operations. The provincial government is currently spending approximately Rs40 billion on law and order initiatives to curb the rising wave of violence.

Recovery Efforts and Public Safety

The Balochistan Home Minister expressed hope for the early and safe recovery of the brother of Balochistan Adviser for Sports and Youth Affairs, Meena Majeed, and the Commissioner of the Rakhshan Division. He clarified that any temporary relocation of residents from conflict-affected areas is a measure of last resort taken only to ensure civilian safety during operations against anti-state elements.

In addition to the recovery efforts, the Home Department has digitized arms licenses and domicile verification systems with the help of NADRA. To secure key transport routes, a new administrative division is being created to monitor highways linking Quetta with Karachi and Taftan. Authorities also reported the recent seizure of 10,000 detonators in Chaman, which were allegedly intended for use in terrorist activities in the provincial capital.
