The commission said it re-described seats after the province created new districts and tehsils, but it redrew no boundary, so the Section 22 hearing process did not apply.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said it re-described the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa constituencies after the provincial government changed its administrative units, but it has not redrawn any constituency boundary. In a statement, the commission said the seats remain the same as they were during the 2024 general elections.

Administrative changes behind the move

The provincial government made changes to administrative units in several districts. These included the formation of new districts and tehsils, which are local administrative subdivisions, as well as changes to some existing tehsils. The ECP said its descriptions of the constituencies had to reflect these changes, even though the boundaries themselves did not move.

Why no fresh hearing was needed

The commission said it has the power to re-describe constituencies under Rule 15 of the Election Rules 2017, and that it has done this before. It also said Section 22 of the Elections Act 2017 does not apply in this case. That section requires the ECP to invite and hear representations, meaning objections or submissions, before it proposes alterations to constituencies. Because no constituency was redrawn, the commission said that requirement was not triggered.

Existing seats remain in place

The ECP's position is that existing constituency boundaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain unchanged. The commission described its move as a change in how constituencies are recorded after administrative reorganisation, not a redistribution of seats. The statement did not set out any further steps.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Election Commission ne Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ke halqon ko dobara describe kiya hai, lekin in ki boundaries nahi badli gayi. Sooba ki sarkar ne naye districts aur tehsils banaye aur kuch tehsils mein tabdiliyan ki, isliye ECP ne tafseel update ki. Halqe wohi hain jo 2024 ke general elections mein thay, to voters ke liye seat mein koi tabdeeli nahi hui.
