Plans for Sindh Agriculture University drone training were announced on Friday, when the university said it intends to teach drone technology to agricultural engineering graduates in collaboration with the Al-Karam Group. The Tandojam-based university said the course is meant to give young professionals practical skills in precision agriculture, digital farming and other emerging farm technologies. No start date, fee or admission procedure has been announced yet.
The announcement was made at the opening session of a two-day workshop on tractor operation and maintenance. Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal said the global farm sector is moving quickly towards mechanisation, robotics and technology-driven farming. "Without embracing modern technology, agricultural development will remain a distant dream," he said.
What the university plans
Prof Siyal said the university also intends to offer tractor operation and drone training for female students, so that they can build practical competencies and reach new career opportunities. He named geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing and drone technology as tools that are becoming more important for raising farm productivity, managing resources and practising precision farming. GIS is software used to map and analyse location-based data, while remote sensing means gathering information about land from a distance, usually from aircraft or satellites.
In simple terms, precision farming means using data and technology to apply water, fertiliser and other inputs where and when they are needed. The Sindh Agriculture University drone training plan is part of this wider push towards modern methods in agricultural engineering.
Degrees, jobs and recognition
The Vice Chancellor said academic degrees alone are no longer enough to secure professional posts, because employers increasingly want practical expertise and specialised skills. He called for agricultural engineering qualifications to be formally recognised by public- and private-sector organisations. He also said graduates should receive fair opportunities in recruitment and competitive examinations.
The workshop
The workshop was organised by the university's Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology to strengthen skills in farm mechanisation, tractor operation, machinery maintenance and workplace safety. Dean of the Faculty Prof Dr Muneer Ahmed Mangrio told students that the present era belongs to practical learning, experimentation and innovation. He urged them to develop hands-on expertise in engine mechanics, machinery maintenance and field operations.
Engr Mansoor Rizvi gave a lecture on tractor components, controls and instruments, while Dr Ameet Kumar covered safety regulations and safe driving practices. Participants practised identifying tractor parts, starting and stopping engines, selecting gears and carrying out field tasks under the supervision of Engr Raza Hassan Saraz and Dr Barkat Ali Nindwani. Dr Muhammad Sohail Memon explained routine servicing, and Dr Sher Ali Shaikh discussed lubrication, cooling and fuel systems. Dr Irshad Ali Mari also addressed participants, and certificates were awarded at the closing ceremony.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam ne zarai engineering ke graduates ke liye drone training ka mansoobah banaya hai, jo Al-Karam Group ke saath milkar di jaye gi. Is ka maqsad precision farming, digital farming aur naye zarai technology mein practical maharat dena hai. Female students ke liye tractor aur drone training bhi plan mein hai. Abhi start date aur admission ka tareeqa nahi bataya gaya, is liye students official notices par nazar rakhein.
