The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday suspended two officers of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS), one in BS-20 and one in BS-19, in an FBR officer suspended case linked to an unauthorised press statement and a call to halt official work. Two other IRS officers, both in BS-20, were sent back to FBR headquarters for further investigation. BS is the basic pay scale used for federal civil servants. The tax authority said the conduct was, prima facie, a violation of the rules that govern civil servants, and that it would not tolerate such misconduct.
What the FBR said
According to a news release from the FBR, the conduct was linked to an unauthorised press statement and to a call asking staff to stop official work. The board said this conduct prima facie breaches Rules 23 and 26 of the Civil Servants (Conduct) Rules, 2026, which were framed under the Civil Servants Act, 1973. It described the conduct as misconduct under Rule 34. Prima facie means the violation is apparent on first view, and it still has to be established in proceedings.
What happens next
The FBR said it would start disciplinary proceedings against the officers under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020. For the FBR officer suspended in this case, the board said formal proceedings will follow under those rules. The statement did not give a timeline for the investigation or for the proceedings.
