Goods transporters have warned they may stage another Karachi Port transporters strike if the Sindh government does not hand over 17 acres of land for vehicle parking, even though the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the body that runs the port, has already cleared the request.
Parking land at the centre of the dispute
Office-bearers of the goods transporters held a detailed meeting with the KPT chairman and laid out their grievances and demands. Their core plea is simple: trucks and trailers that serve the port need a dedicated parking area so port-side haulage can run with less congestion and friction.
All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said there is an urgent need for a parking facility at Karachi Port. He cautioned that if the land is not provided, transporters are prepared to strike again.
Rs450 billion cited from August stoppage
Awan said the national kitty bore a loss of Rs450 billion because of their strike in August 2026. The alliance is pressing Sindh to allot the 17 acres after KPT’s clearance, arguing that without dedicated parking the port’s goods movement remains vulnerable to disruption.
