The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sent five notices as part of a probe that involves Dr Amjad Ali, a provincial lawmaker from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and four other people. Ali has been asked to report to the bureau's Peshawar office on October 20. The NAB inquiry was opened after the bureau received a complaint, and it is examining whether his assets exceed what his known income can account for.

What NAB has requested

Ali is a member of the provincial assembly and holds a special assistant's post under the chief minister, with a housing portfolio. Besides him, NAB has called four people as witnesses: Bacha Syed, Muhammad Arif Shah, Siraj Ahmad and Naveed Ahmad. They have been scheduled to appear on dates from October 20 through 22.

The bureau has asked for property records from several housing societies, including allotment, ownership and payment details. It has also asked the provincial Accountant General's office for Ali's salary, allowances, benefits and travel expenses. NAB has cautioned that ignoring the notices may lead to legal steps against those named.

An earlier court order

The NAB inquiry follows earlier litigation. In March 2026, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) told NAB not to harass Ali over an assets case and closed his writ petition, a formal application seeking court relief.

At the hearing, Ali's lawyer, Bashir Wazir, told a two-member bench that his client had already given the bureau records about his assets. He argued that a fresh notice, issued despite court limits on repeated summonses, amounted to harassment.

NAB special prosecutor Arbab Kaleemullah told the court that no call-up notice had been sent to Ali personally at that stage. A female relative and a close associate were called as witnesses instead. The prosecutor claimed that some assets registered in their names were in fact Ali's and had gone undisclosed.

The bench, made up of Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah, directed NAB to act strictly within the law and not harass the petitioner. It added that Ali could file a suitable application if he felt harassed.
