Police in Lakki Marwat on Saturday defused a 20-kilogramme improvised explosive device (IED) — a homemade bomb — near Wanda Shuja along Mianwali Road, stopping what officials described as an attempt to strike law-enforcement personnel.

An official said suspected terrorists had planted the device beside the road. Officers secured the scene, sealed off the area and called the bomb disposal squad (BDS). Squad experts then made the explosive safe through a controlled operation. Police later opened a search to find those behind the planting.

How the device was handled

The sequence followed standard roadside-threat practice: cordon first, then specialist clearance. Officials linked the placement of the 20kg IED to a planned attack on police or other security staff using that stretch of Mianwali Road. No further details were given on injuries, arrests at the site, or a claim of responsibility.

Encroachment deadline in Darra Pezu

In a separate district matter, the administration told traders in Darra Pezu town they have five days — until 28 October — to remove encroachments from both sides of the highway and from bazaars, or face legal steps.

Announcements were made over mosque loudspeakers on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Shahid Rafiq Gandapur, asking shopkeepers to clear the structures themselves within the deadline. The Peshawar–Karachi Highway runs through Pezu; officials said roadside and bazaar encroachments block traffic and make walking difficult. The move followed public complaints. An official warned that an anti-encroachment drive would start if the deadline is missed. The deputy commissioner said the campaign against encroachments would continue and be extended to other areas.

Food trade checks in Serai Naurang

Elsewhere in the district, the food department began action against traders in Serai Naurang town after complaints of artificial price rises and the hoarding of food items. Further results of that drive were not detailed.
