Amazon AWS revenue growth projections rest on a simple bet, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told investors on Thursday’s quarterly earnings call: keep pouring money into AI cloud infrastructure now, and AWS can grow fast enough to become a trillion-dollar annual revenue business within five to 10 years.
He said there has never been a business with a trillion dollars of yearly revenue, and that what Amazon is building is “unlike anything that’s ever been seen before.” Before that scale arrives, he said, the company must raise capital spending — money used to build long-lived assets such as data centres and servers — to support demand.
Capex plans for 2026 and beyond
Jassy said Amazon still expects 2026 cash capex of about $220 billion, with the majority going to AWS, and expects to spend “meaningfully more” in 2027, with a “clear line of sight” to financial returns. He framed the AI surge as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” that justifies a large commitment now.
“We’re going to invest to continue being the leader,” he said. “We can fund this plan, and I think it will forever change the size of Amazon. It will forever change our revenue.” Analysts on the call asked repeatedly about the scale of outlays, the proof that growth will follow, and the profit margins Amazon expects.
How fast AWS is growing
AWS revenue rose 39% from the year-ago quarter, extending a stretch of solid growth for a sixth straight quarter. Jassy said AWS is a $184 billion annualised revenue run-rate business, yet the opportunity “remains extraordinary.”
He forecast that, with new core and AI features, enterprises running core and AI workloads on AWS, and capacity added each year, AWS can grow “north of 40 percent” in each of 2027 and 2028. That forecast sits at the centre of current Amazon AWS revenue growth projections. He added that enterprise AI adoption is still in “the very early days” and that, so far, the “strategy is working.”
Investor reaction
Even so, concern about Amazon’s AI infrastructure spend has followed the company through the year. After Thursday’s call, shares were down about 6% in after-market trading. Other large cloud firms are also investing heavily while booking strong growth; the source notes Microsoft recently reported further record revenue growth driven largely by cloud, alongside heavy spending of its own.
For readers following Amazon AI cloud services, the near-term story is not a finished product launch but a multi-year build: more capacity first, then the growth Jassy says that capacity should unlock.

Is ke liye company 2026 mein lagbhag 220 billion dollar cash kharcha (capex) karne ka irada rakhti hai, zyada tar AWS par. Woh kehte hain AI cloud ki demand bari hai aur 2027 aur 2028 mein growth 40 percent se upar reh sakti hai. Investors ko abhi bhi yeh kharcha bhari lag raha hai, is liye hisse after-market mein lagbhag 6 percent giray.
