Bank Alfalah Limited (BAFL) has reported a profit after tax of Rs30.61 billion for the first nine months of 2026, marking a 42.8% increase compared to the same period last year. The bank’s board of directors approved the financial results on October 22, 2026, noting a significant rise in earnings per share to Rs9.71 from Rs6.80 in 2025.
Following the strong performance, the bank declared a third interim cash dividend of Rs1.50 per share. This brings the total cumulative dividend payout for the nine-month period to Rs4.50 per share, compared to Rs3.75 during the same period in the previous year.
Growth in Deposits and Lending
The bank's total deposits crossed the Rs2.5 trillion mark, closing at Rs2.62 trillion by the end of September. This represents a 20.8% growth year-on-year. Current deposits, which are a key source of low-cost funding for banks, reached Rs1.10 trillion, showing a 16.9% increase.
On the lending side, the gross loan book expanded by 11.3% to reach Rs1.20 trillion. This growth was distributed across various sectors, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), agriculture, and consumer segments. Net Interest Income (NII)—the difference between what a bank earns on loans and pays on deposits—rose by 5.5% due to higher average current account volumes and better credit margins.
Non-Funded Income and Operational Efficiency
Non-funded income, which includes fees and commissions, grew by 31.1%. The bank attributed this to strategic portfolio rebalancing, foreign exchange income, and fee growth from remittances and trade services. Despite inflationary pressures, the bank limited its operating expense growth to 4.1% through cost-optimisation measures.
During the third quarter of 2026, the bank also concluded the issuance of a Rs20 billion Subordinated Tier II Term Finance Certificate (TFC). This instrument, which helps the bank maintain its capital requirements, is now listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
Future Outlook and Social Impact
Bank Alfalah stated it will continue focusing on digital transformation and expanding its SME and consumer lending portfolios. The bank also reported spending over Rs400 million on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Islamic charity initiatives during the first nine months of the year.
As of September 30, 2026, the bank maintained a capital adequacy ratio of 14.79%, indicating it has sufficient capital to support its operations and meet regulatory requirements.
