The LPG price in Pakistan today eased in Lahore after fresh liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stocks began reaching the city. Following the new arrivals, the retail rate fell by Rs50 per kilogram. Even with that cut, LPG is still selling at Rs550 per kg — far above the government-fixed rate of Rs279 per kg set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the body that notifies official fuel prices.
Fresh supplies cut rates, gap remains wide
Local LPG dealers linked the price decrease to the arrival of new stocks and said a further significant drop is expected today. The local market is nonetheless still inflated: Rs550 per kg is almost double OGRA’s notified figure of Rs279.34 per kilo. Residents remain concerned that the fuel is still changing hands at nearly twice the official rate.
Distributors warn of inflated charging
LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar said LPG companies are charging inflated rates and that higher demand is being used for illegal profiteering. “There are countrywide reports of selling LPG between Rs 500 to 600 per kilogram,” he said. He warned that prices could climb again if supplies are disrupted, questioned how the market can stabilise if government rates are not enforced, and demanded a crackdown on alleged black-marketing with those behind it held accountable.
Household pressure after gas loadshedding
After piped-gas loadshedding, high LPG costs have added another burden for consumers, especially low-income households already facing a rising cost of living. With the LPG price in Pakistan today still well above the notified band in Lahore, the gap between the official rate and what buyers actually pay remains the core complaint.
