Indus Motor Company Limited, which assembles and sells Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, reported a Toyota Pakistan profit of Rs7.38 billion after tax for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. That was 10 percent higher than the Rs6.72 billion earned in the same quarter a year earlier, and 21 percent above the Rs6.11 billion posted in the preceding quarter.

Earnings per share rose to Rs93.95 from Rs85.49 in 1QFY26. The board also approved a cash dividend of Rs56 per share, compared with Rs51 a year earlier, which amounts to a payout ratio of 59.6 percent.

Sales and volumes drive the result

Net sales reached Rs74.02 billion in 1QFY27, up 20 percent year on year and 11 percent from the previous quarter. The company said the rise was driven mainly by a 34 percent year-on-year increase in unit sales, to 13,260 vehicles, from a stronger mix of passenger cars.

The Yaris, Corolla and Corolla Cross segment led the rebound, with volumes up 43 percent year on year to 10,925 units. Fortuner and Hilux volumes edged up 3 percent to a combined 2,335 units. Higher volumes also lifted revenue versus 4QFY26, when 11,333 units were sold.

Margins ease as sedans dominate the mix

Gross margin declined to 15.3 percent from 17.1 percent in 1QFY26. Sedans accounted for 82 percent of total volumes, up from 77 percent a year earlier, and the company linked the thinner margin to the lower relative contribution of Fortuner and Hilux. On a sequential basis, though, the margin recovered from 10.3 percent in 4QFY26.

Distribution expenses rose 4 percent year on year to Rs723 million, after a quieter base in 4QFY26 that included a Rs625 million reversal of warranty obligations. Administrative expenses increased 5 percent to Rs898 million.

Other income, finance costs and tax

Other income grew 11 percent year on year to Rs3.22 billion, helped by higher savings rates. Finance costs climbed to Rs204 million from Rs50 million in 1QFY26, reflecting higher interest rates and the start of SIDC payments—scheduled payments linked to the company’s financing arrangements. Those costs were also up 9 percent from Rs186 million in 4QFY26.

The effective tax rate was 37.6 percent in 1QFY27, compared with 39.3 percent a year earlier and 37.0 percent in the prior quarter. Taken together, stronger Toyota car sales profit and higher revenue offset softer gross margins, leaving Toyota Pakistan profit higher for the opening quarter of FY27.
