Grid link for Dhabeji now live
National Grid Pakistan has put into service a 220 kilovolt (kV) high-voltage route running from Jhampir-II to the Dhabeji substation. In a Monday statement dated 2 November from Islamabad, the company said the step should help give the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone a more dependable electricity feed and, over time, support hiring, capital inflows and wider economic activity around the site.
Cost and policy context
Delivery of the works came to roughly Rs1,806.90 million. The utility framed the investment as matching a federal push to turn the Dhabeji zone into a major base for factories. Steady voltage, it argued, helps plants stay online, encourages firms to expand and keeps household incomes tied to those workplaces.
As more units open or grow inside the estate, the press note said local residents should see more paid work, stronger upstream and downstream links for suppliers, and a larger contribution to the country’s output. Young people in Sindh, it added, could find skilled roles without leaving their province.
What National Grid’s leadership said
Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik thanked staff who finished the assignment. He described the energisation as a meaningful move to reinforce the wires and substations that will serve the zone and to back its longer industrial goals.
The company restated that it wants a national transmission system able to reach communities in every province so development gains are shared more widely.
