Students who want to study MBBS or BDS in Pakistan still need an FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) said. The council has clarified that the FSc Pre-Medical eligibility criteria have not been relaxed. To be considered for public and private medical and dental colleges, candidates must secure at least 60% marks at intermediate level, or hold an equivalent qualification.
Council dismisses reports of relaxation
The clarification followed reports circulating on digital media that suggested medical and dental admission rules had been eased. Taking notice of those reports, the council said in a statement that the existing admission criteria remained unchanged. The statement announced no change to the rules.
What applicants must meet
Under PM&DC admission regulations, the minimum is 60% marks at intermediate level or an equivalent qualification. The same standard applies to both MBBS, the bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery, and BDS, the bachelor's degree in dental surgery. The council also said candidates must fulfil all other applicable regulatory requirements for admission to these programmes, so the marks threshold is not the only test.
FSc stands for Faculty of Science, and Pre-Medical refers to the stream within it that covers the science subjects needed for medicine and dentistry. Applicants who have seen reports of changed rules should check the council's own requirements before relying on them.
Aasan alfaaz mein
PM&DC ne saaf kaha hai ke MBBS aur BDS mein dakhle ke liye FSc Pre-Medical ya uska barabar qualification abhi bhi zaroori hai. Intermediate mein kam az kam 60% marks hona lazmi hai, aur baqi qaaydon par bhi poora utarna hoga. Kisi bhi khabar par bharosa karne se pehle council ki taaza hidayat dekh lein.
