What Monday’s visit changes

Imran Khan bail is about lawyer access, not a fresh release order. Barrister Salman Safdar said managers at Adiala Jail finally cleared a roughly forty-minute session with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and Bushra Bibi on Monday after he had kept pressing for entry. He timed the sitting for 4:30 in the afternoon and framed it as the first proper consultation in many months.

Writing on X, Safdar said seven months had passed since he last sat with the former prime minister and eleven months since he last saw Bushra. He judged the slot too brief for every unfinished brief. Even so, both clients described how they are faring in custody and handed him updated directions on selected litigation still before the courts. That is the core of the present Imran Khan bail news today file: contact restored for a short window, with legal work only partly covered.

Sentences still in force

The former premier has been confined at the Rawalpindi facility from August 2023. He is presently serving terms linked to the Al-Qadir Trust matter and the Toshakhana reference involving a Bulgari jewellery set. Punishment in two further Toshakhana references remains paused while appeals run.

He also faces several prosecutions tied to the unrest of 9 May 2023 that followed his arrest. PTI rejects those allegations and calls the docket a product of politics. Party workers and relatives have long objected to tight limits on who may see him inside Adiala.

An older bail step still sits in the public record: on 17 July 2023, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi signed surety bonds for bail in various cases at the Lahore High Court registrar’s office. That paperwork did not end the later jail terms now being served.

Court order and October pressure

In September 2026 the Islamabad High Court told jail managers to stop isolating Imran and Bushra and to supply facilities required under prison rules. Monday’s meeting sits against that instruction and against months of disputed access.

Tension around his detention rose in October when PTI began an extended procession aimed at Islamabad under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The column left Lakki Marwat on 4 October, seeking his release and medical access, including a session with his personal doctor. On 11 October, President Asif Ali Zardari proclaimed an emergency and placed the province under governor’s rule on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, sidelining the PTI provincial set-up. The centre cited security concerns and what it called weak counterterrorism work by the provincial administration. Afridi and several cabinet colleagues were then held preventively; the party said provincial president Junaid Akbar was also taken in. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry later confirmed detentions, saying those with cases would be charged and tried while others could be freed.
