Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday directed officials to draw up a comprehensive strategy to revive the PTV Drama and Film Academy as a modern training institution. The aim, he said at a high-level meeting in Islamabad, is to equip young people with professional skills in filmmaking, drama production and digital content creation.

Federal Secretary for Information Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and senior Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials attended. The session reviewed both the academy’s revival and plans to revamp PTV Home through specialised training programmes, modern technical facilities and industry-oriented learning models.

Private-sector models and a pilot project

Officials examined training models proposed with private-sector partners. The focus was hands-on professional instruction for young people and new revenue opportunities for Pakistan Television (PTV), the state broadcaster.

Tarar ordered a transparent, practical pilot project with the private sector so courses stay aligned with changing industry needs. He said building practical skills in filmmaking, drama production, editing, colour grading and digital content creation is among the government’s priorities, and that restoring the academy and upgrading PTV Home reflect a wider push for Pakistan’s media and creative industries.

Colour grading and modern studios

Tarar said Pakistan is introducing an advanced colour-grading training programme for the first time. Until now, he noted, professionals often had to travel abroad for specialised training and modern facilities in that field. Local advanced colour-grading capacity, he argued, would give the film industry and private producers access to technical resources at home and help raise the quality of Pakistani filmmaking.

The meeting also reviewed proposals for modern classrooms and studio laboratories, student workstations, technical staff and trainers, and a full curriculum. Students would work in a professional setting with modern editing suites, studio labs and technical equipment, Tarar said. Training would go beyond theory through practical assignments, project development and portfolio building.

Showcase paths and sustainability

Emerging creators’ work would be encouraged for PTV News, PTV Home and other PTV platforms, giving newcomers a chance to show their skills. Tarar said the measures should strengthen the national film and drama sector by building a skilled workforce, bringing advanced technical know-how and making modern production facilities available locally. Officials were also told to pursue the financial sustainability of the PTV Academy as it becomes a working professional training centre.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Wazir Attaullah Tarar ne PTV Drama and Film Academy ko dobara chalane ka hukum diya hai. Jawanon ko film, drama aur digital content ki practical training milne ka plan hai. Pehli dafa colour grading jaisi training Pakistan mein hone ka zikr kiya gaya. Is se PTV aur film industry ke liye local skills aur facilities barhne ki umeed hai.
