Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the home of Laiba Ijaz to offer condolences and deliver financial restitution, marking a major update in the Laiba Ijaz case. Accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Sohail Chaudhry, the minister handed more than Rs5 million back to her father, Rana Ijaz. The recovered cash forms part of the funds stolen in an employment scam that preceded the gold medallist's death by suicide.

Naqvi pledged that law enforcement agencies would persist in tracking down the remaining balance taken by the suspected con artist. The young graduate had aspirations to study overseas and serve her homeland before falling prey to fraudulent promises.

Probe Uncovers Network of Fake Appointments

During their inquiries into the broader racket, Islamabad police discovered that the accused individual, identified as Nauman, allegedly targeted dozens of hopeful applicants. Officers uncovered 21 counterfeit job offer letters ostensibly issued by the Ministry of Defence.

Investigators established that Nauman collected significant payments from candidates in return for bogus employment documentation. The deceptive operation also ensnared the suspect's relatives, with four cousins among those issued fictitious paperwork. Authorities have also traced similar complaints from female job candidates in Mansehra.

Police Assure Continued Recovery Efforts

Addressing reporters following the visit, Rana Ijaz acknowledged the backing of the public and appreciated the prompt response from Islamabad police. He confirmed the receipt of the recovered money, noting that while his loss remains irreplaceable, public solidarity provided solace to his household.

Senior police officials confirmed that the inquiry into the fraud ring remains active. Teams are working to identify any surviving accomplices who facilitated the fabrication of state agency documents and the transfer of extortion funds.
