Traffic police in Rawalpindi have registered a case against the riders of a motorcycle seen performing dangerous wheelies with a woman on the back. The case followed a viral video, and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said he had taken notice of it. Officials said the riders would be identified and that social media footage would be used against traffic violators.
Case registered over the viral video
The first information report (FIR) is the formal complaint that starts a criminal case. It was lodged at the Cantt police station on Monday evening, on the complaint of the in-charge of traffic in Cantonment. According to the complaint, a traffic warden on duty at the MH Intersection on Mall Road Sadar saw the video on October 19. It showed an unidentified man riding a black Honda CG-125 motorcycle, with an unidentified woman seated behind him, as they moved from the GPO Underpass towards Marka-e-Haq Chowk.
The complainant said the stunts put the lives of the riders and other motorists in grave danger. Police booked the unknown couple under the rash driving provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, and under section 99 of the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1968, which covers risky driving. Police are trying to identify the pair with the help of Safe City cameras and other sources, and the riders have not yet been named.
Social media footage to be used as evidence
CTO Farhan Aslam said strict action would be taken against traffic violators whose videos reach the police through social media. He said such footage would be used to identify wheelie riders and dangerous drivers and to make arrests. Traffic officials were also told to act firmly against anyone performing stunts on roads, and the CTO said no one would be allowed to endanger their own life or the lives of other road users.
Kahuta crackdown on modified motorbikes
In a separate operation, traffic police in Kahuta targeted dozens of motorbikes fitted with illegal silencers, pressure horns and flasher lights. Officials removed the non-standard modifications and issued fine tickets to violators. Motorcycles without proper mufflers, or with altered silencers, were impounded at the local police station.
Authorities said the impounded bikes will be released only after their owners replace the illegal parts with standard factory silencers. Speaking on the occasion, the CTO said people who create panic and noise pollution through altered vehicles do not deserve any leniency.
