A local court in Lahore on Monday extended the physical remand of prime suspect Faheem Akram Naeem by four days in a case involving an alleged Rs35 billion fraud through the online sale of counterfeit US postage stamps.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), which investigates online crime in Pakistan, produced him before a judicial magistrate after his previous five-day physical remand ended. Investigators asked for more time to finish their work. The court handed him back to the agency for four further days and directed that he be produced again on 30 October.
What the agency alleges
According to the NCCIA, Naeem had been operating a website under the name Labels Bank since August 2023. The agency said he had allegedly sold more than five million counterfeit US postage stamps.
Physical remand means the suspect remains in the investigating agency’s custody so officers can question him and gather evidence, as distinct from being held only under judicial custody in jail.
